We currently have over 45,000 Ha of land available to rent in large units from 2,000 Ha up to 20,000 Ha. This is predominantly black soil farms. Although the financial crisis has driven away most of the speculative capital the level of interest is still quite high and is mainly from private farmers.
Land prices
During the summer of 2008 `key money` (to obtain existing long term leases of land) started off at about $200 / Ha and rose to $750 or so in the best areas. These prices were largely driven by the huge amount of investment capital (largely speculative) which has now disappeared following the global financial crisis. However in the second half of January 2009 there has been a marked increase in interest from foreign farmers - German, British & Irish, USA and Danes. As farmers are usually only buying one farm they are tending to focus on the best areas in Ukraine with good rainfall. Prices for key money are probably anything from zero to $250 / Ha depending on the farm and location.
